Today I’ll share with you some insight that took me literally years to understand… but understanding this sole concept helped me to fire-boost my mastery of a specific topic in almost an instant…
Here’s what I mean:
When we want to do something, there are always a few things that block us from really achieving what we want from the beginning.
Those blocks are in fact caused by the lack of some « key foundational knowledge » at VERY SPECIFIC spots of our doing process.
(Demonstration of my claim is coming in this very email)
Let me explain what I mean with an example… after reading it, what I want to say will become crystal clear for you.
Let’s say that you want to build an FEA website…
I can be just a page to show up your FEA skills or to show-case your consulting projects…Anything
How would you do that?
I’ll tell you how I did it few years ago…
Being an engineer (not a coder), I knew only the VERY basics.
You open a text file, you write some HTML code on it and then you upload the file on a server computer … (and yes, you also need maybe a domain name)
Learning HTML is not so difficult… in fact, I could probably teach it to you right in this very email.
You just have to know you have to write whatever you want inside specific brackets with the name of the component like ‘<p>Hello world</p>’ and then put it inside a text file.
…easy enough, right?
Here’s a « slightly » more elaborate example:
Want to play with the code? Try to edit the text and change the code directly here:
https://jsfiddle.net/CyprienR/ux5syg2q/
Ok… I agree…the page is still a little shabby, but with few improvements, it could be okay (…that’s what I mistakenly thought ;-) )
The thing is…
Once you know how to build that you may think :
« Hey… that’s easy, I can build a website too… »
Just learn HTML code, write a few pages, put them on a server
…and you get your own website
COOL :-)
Now… if you start and do that (I did)
You will realize something VERY frustrating
Every time you want to update something on your site, you have to open your FTP, search where is exactly the code you want to change, change it, save the file
That’s really frustrating believe me…
If you just want to add a simple link, you need to go thru all the process…
And when you want to add a blog post for example… you have to code it manually… yuk
The hassle to do all of that is often so big that you simply don’t do it…
One day… I was wondering
If there are so many websites out there… and so many news, articles, etc… it cannot be possible that everyone is doing like me…
There must be a better way…
The problem?
I just didn’t know what was this « better way »…
I had tried to give it everything I had, but I couldn’t even put a name on what I wanted to do
That’s when I found a free course on a website
(A french website that was great and free… but it has been changed into a paid website now which still basically uses the same free material, but now you have to paid for it…)
Anyhoo…
This website taught me JUST ONE THING more that I didn’t know
(and then many others ;-) )
-> the difference between a static website and a dynamic website
What does it mean?
Well, basically, it told that you can build 2 types of websites… those fully static made of pages coded one by one like I did…
Or, you can build websites that have an inner system built-in that can help you to easily update the content and that take cares of the coding instead of you…
You don’t know how much I was happy after hearing that… this simple piece of knowledge alone saved me DAYS of hard work.
In fact, you even have Free systems like WordPress that you can install on your server to do exactly that (my blog Feaforall is running with that BTW)
Ok… now back to FEA :)
Why did I tell you all that?
This knowledge alone was a key that opened many doors to me
I went from that to learning CSS, php, MySQL, JavaScript, jQyery, Ajax, node.js, Laravel, vuejs,…
Each of those helped my later on to build something else…
…to EXTEND what I already had, make it better and more sophisticated
…But the real KEY, the CORE of all of that…
came for that unique piece of knowledge about « dynamic websites »
Sometimes, that’s all you need for a breakthrough
Same for FEA
Some foundational Key knowledge will open many doors to you…
Exciting, isn’t it?
…Knowing that you can create and build anything you want, whenever you want… as long as you know where you can get those missing pieces of the puzzle
In the mean time…
I prepared a small « game » for those who want to participate
(I LOVE games ;-) )
Nothing difficult, just 2 questions to answer in a survey to test your actual knowledge about some of the key FEA foundational knowledge…
Question 1:
What steps would you take to identify the main vibration characteristics of the marine refrigeration machine in the previous image?
Question 2:
What would be the main challenges you can expect to meet in such a complex FEA analysis?
It shouldn’t take you more that 2 min to answer (…and only if you are really really slow)
Click here to fill out the 2 min survey
Thanks for joining!
If you are in the newsletter, you will receive the best answer to the survey in 2 days by email…

I’ve been going through all the material and its giving me a great insight as to what work I am currently doing here at my new job! It’s nice to know why I do what I do here especially since I have to learn everything myself. Learning thru your website will be my new go-to! I’ll rely on it and definitely ask questions on LinkedIn! Thanks!

Could anyone explain if thickness of shell element is more than its length. Let’s assume 2 mm length quad with thickness 3 mm. Will it violet the plate bending theory? Wht will happen with result? I am beginner in FEA & confused regarding this? Thanks in advance!!! Thanks for your support & appreciate your help…
