I just read the last article of the CAE guy from the July 2014 edition of Benchmark (NAFEMS) and i think that what the author says is so true !
(My company MIDAS IT just joined as a member of NAFEMS and we are so incredibly excited about it)
The article is about the story of a child which has suddenly a crisis of appendicitis. The parents then brought the child in the hospital and after that the doctors made all the tests, they do the surgery, and then everything goes well. But the story is about the difference in the conception of time between the parents and the doctors. For the parents, all the process was so long and stressful and they didn’t know why. For the doctor, all the process was done as fast as possible because of all the requirements, tests and analysis results interpretation.
The Author then mention that it is the same for CAE, someone who don’t know about it will think that it is simple. Take a CAD model, click on few buttons and then get the results…. but every FEA analyst knows that it is not so simple and that a large model can take days to build, analyze and solve.
It reminds me of those CAD engineers who think that CAE is just an extension module of CAD and that by clicking in one button you will get every answers…
But the truth is that everyone only knows what he knows, by knowledge or experience, therefore everyone analyze the world with his own tools.
It could be CAE, but it could be also medicine as the CAE Guy mention it.
I think the best ability that human is their ability to learn and understand what happen behind everything !
I suddenly had an idea writing this post… what if CAE also had the ability to learn from us, using artificial intelligence for example ?
We could in this way improve the technology and the technology could improve itself from our behavior.
Maybe it could be a topic for the future…
Thank you for this wonderful article CAEGuy and NAFEMS!
If you have a comment about that ! Please let me know and let’s discuss about it together :)
